ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Dominic Skrelja’s 24th goal of the season, late in the second period, proved to be his team-leading fifth game-winning tally of the season as the Soo Eagles went on to double up the Elliot Lake Wildcats 4-2 Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Centennial Arena.
Each team would score once in the back half of the first frame with Ryan Dacks putting the Eagles in flight at 14:32 before Tysne Stranski tied it for the Wildcats at 18:05.
It stayed tied at 1-1 well into the middle stanza before Bobby Price struck shorthanded for Sault Ste. Marie at 14:14 to put the guests back in front.
Skrelja then provided the eventual difference maker in the final minute of the second as the Eagles captain found the ack of the net.
Drawing closer, Elliot Lake’s Connor Taylor scored 39 seconds into the final stanza as his 18th made it 3-2.
However, Chase Tallaire provided some insurance for the guests with 7:17 to go to round out the night’s scoring.
Shane Brancato made 40 saves on the night to record the victory while Jonathan Lemaire handled 53 of 57 in suffering the loss.
