Strong start sends Wildcats past Beavers

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Elliot Lake Wildcats scored four first period goals and never looked back as they went on to defeat the Blind River Beavers 7-2 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest held Saturday at the Blind River Recreation Centre.

Spencer MacLean started Elliot Lake off just over four minutes in to make it 1-0.

Cole Hepler’s 28th of the season added to the Wildcats cushion midway through the first while Chad Lopez notched another for the visitors at 15:35.

Elliot Lake kept at it and added one more before the session was complete on MacLean’s second of period.

The Wildcats tacked on three more in the middle period to take control of the contest thanks to tallies by Lopez, Artur Terchiyev and Liam Blais.

Blind River came out quickly to begin the third with Steven Khull putting one home eight seconds after the face-off to begin the frame.

Khull notched another one for the Beavers with 12:40 remaining, but it proved to be the final marker of the night.

Hepler added two assists as well for the visitors as he extended a consecutive game point streak to 16 in succession.

Wildcats defenceman Nathan Campbell dished out three helpers to do his part offensively.

Aaron Mackay made 21 saves to pick-up the win for Elliot Lake.

Martin Miloslavich and Matt Blattenberger both saw time in net for Blind River in defeat facing 52 shots in total.
