Wildcats get by Eskis 6-4
IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – Liam Blais’ second goal of the game with 6:13 remaining proved to be the game-winner as the Elliot Lake Wildcats skated a 6-4 road victory over the Iroquois Falls Eskis Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Jus Jordan Arena.
Each team tallied twice in the opening 20 minutes with Ryan Hackett and Blais connecting for the Wildcats while Brett Ouderkirk and Tanner Bowditch countered for the Eskis.
Elliot Lake then grabbed a 4-3 lead after two periods sandwiching tallies from Chad Lopez and Arthur Terchiyev around one by Shadow Reuben of Iroquois Falls.
David Osborne tied it for the home side 79 seconds into the final frame with the score staying that way until Blais supplied the eventual decider.
Alec MacKenzie then capped off the night’s scoring with an empty netter late for the Wildcats.
MacKenzie and Spencer Allen had two assists for the Cats with Garry Mindus doing likewise for Iroquois Falls.
Allan Menary made 21 saves in securing the win for Elliot Lake while Josh Horner faced 33 shots in defeat for the Eskis.
